To help students meet educational goals, Greenville Technical College (GTC) evaluates and awards academic credit for prior learning that is equivalent to GTC’s courses and learning outcomes.
Students may transfer credits earned at other colleges or universities with a grade of “C” or higher for equivalent credits at GTC. In collaboration with the Transcript Evaluation Office, the appropriate faculty must evaluate and approve transfer credits.
The college may accept comparable course-to-course transfer based on demonstrated learning competencies consistent with GTC courses, programs of study, and credit requirements, as outlined in the procedures. To meet graduation requirements for a program at GTC, students must earn at least 25% of the total credit hours of their program of study through courses taken at GTC. Transfer credit will not count toward the 25%.
Students must ensure that their previous institution sends an official college transcript to GTC. Or, if the previous institution is from outside of the United States, the previous institution must send an official college transcript to a transcript evaluation service accredited by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES.)
The appropriate GTC department head/faculty must evaluate courses for transfer credit unless the courses are included in the Statewide Articulation Agreement. Approvals are documented on the Approval for Transfer of Credits form found on the college website. Additional signatures to include advisor and registrar are required for notification purposes.
The Transcript Evaluation Office must enter approved transfer credit into the GTC student record.
Failure to comply with/follow this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
